a breakfast conversation. sid just bought a riddle book at a neighbour’s garage sale.
sid: what is easier to give than to receive?
benoit: money
zsuzsa: kindness
all three: ….
sid: criticism
zsuzsa: oh I can’t take any criticism
jean: me neither. though. i don’t know what it is.

more rain overnight means I had to pull all garlics out before they get too bogged.
a few weeks too early, still probably my best crop ever.

when Zsuzsa turned 13, one long year ago, mamie bought her (and I) some tickets to see Dua Lipa at the Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne.
we have been looking forward to this day forever since.
Dua Lipa delivered, big time.

“votre mission, si vous l’acceptez, consiste à dormir dans mon lit et à y transférer l’intégralité de vos animaux en peluche et autres cuddly toys.”
Jean was worried. I was going to Bendigo for a concert, letting the children settle in bed on their own.
“why don’t you sleep in my bed tonight, and bring a lot of cuddly toys so it feels very soft and cuddly when I come back?”
she liked the idea.
we had a bit of a crowded sleep.

the rain is a regular and often long visitor at the moment, records are falling. most plants enjoy it.
we are preparing a trio of gigs in a trio version of the Django Fretts, while on our free weekends, Lea and I organise the house.

dressed up to see the bamboos. ended up not going, at home with Jean planting some instead.
And so Jean and I spent a whole afternoon and evening together. it’s the small things.
the aftermath of the floods at the res. the waterfalls, the bubbles. a carpet of yellow groundflowers. a small whool kite floating on top of a blade of grass. pink lemonade in a shiraz glass.
the god of small things was kind to us today.

sometimes when the winter has been wet, when the dams everywhere overflow, when the ground can’t absorb water anymore, the weather gods decide to add yet another downpour.
it happened in 2011, it happened in 2016 & it happened yesterday after 2 stormy days brought us about 100 mm of rain.
