the week that’s been

last Sunday was the fifteenth anniversary of Claire and I’s wedding. one of the milestone dates of our life, it was a good occasion to remember. the day, the adventures, the memories, the path ahead. a day to remember all those who were with us on that beautiful day, physically and in spirits, feeling forever grateful and indebted for each and every contribution to this day – I will never forget. a very good day to go for a long sunny bushwalk.

yesterday Zsuzsa, Sidney, Ryder and I took a trip to the footy. boys were covered from head to toes in tigers gear. Zsuzsa and I borrowed some patches. the flag waving, the cheering, the jeering, the sense of identity it both so cheaply and generously provides, the crowd effect, our human sponge children soaking all this in their soft shelled brains and hearts, the half time chips, the beers. all this. such a fascinating anthropological experience – what we humans do – in a very remarkably safe diverse, cross gendered and family friendly environment. Melbourne.

in between the kids went back to school and the whirlwind of work, sports, trainings, lunch boxes and school drop-in and drop-offs started again. it feels so good to feel useful again.

I also went to a gig in Chewton and there was a stuffed cow head holding a disco ball.

Zsuzsa went to Melbourne today, to watch with her football team and 75 thousand other people the big game of the week at the MCG (Melbourne lost). Sid dropped for her at my place her school bag, while I was at work. so it happened that coming home after a long working day I found this note on the table. love is such a precious asset.

in Newstead we picked up Agy for the day.

on the outskirts of Maryborough a fox was eating form a plastic bag on the roadside, casual and fearless.

a very long freight train further slowed down our journey and we witnessed shipping containers, of three different kind, as they were one after the other slowly passing by.

between Avoca and Navarre there is a corner of the bush called Frenchmans, with nothing to be seen, but nature and a roadsign.

two games were played, one was won and the other lost.

we played car games on the way back.

arrived back home, watched some more footy on the telly.

there is an old community hall in Bunninyong, near Ballarat, where every year the extended members and friends of the Mc donalds family gather to share their love of music laughter and good company. They call it Music at Maccas.

An open stage is organised and everyone invited to share a song or four if they like.

this year our friend Andy, long time member of this happy gang, brought Wayne and I to play alongside his singing and guitar, Wayne on the mamdolin and harnonica, me on my old friend the flute.

old and young, everyone it seems took a turn, with this very special generosity and warmth that exudes from sincere offerings.

a very inclusive & heartfelt evening in great company.
